The Clinic (Shahu Maharaj Arogya Kendra)
The Project was first launched by HCI on August 17th, 1996, with the establishment of an all-purpose Clinic in a rented premise with hitherto not available diagnostic facilities, like Pathology Lab, X-ray and ECG. The Clinic ran as Out Patient with a minor operation room and one bed for emergency patient with basic emergency facilities. A dilapidated first floor space was taken on modest rent, as HCI believed not to spend precious funds on building up a structure, but to spend the major amount on providing modern diagnostic tools for Path Lab, X-ray, and treatment room and provide high quality primary care service.
A unique computerized ECG machine which provides the result with diagnosis was provided, thus eliminating expertise required to "read" ECG by expert Cardiologist. Several impending heart attack patients have been diagnosed in the clinic, over the years and referred to experts in Kolhapur, thus saving many lives. For the first time in the history of Raddhanagari, since 1997, Tuberculosis is diagnosed scientifically by sputum examination by special staining techniques in our Path Lab, just as Malarial parasites are detected in suspected malaria cases. Due to networking facilities for Specialist treatment provided by HCI, those who required tertiary care attention, are treated in a Tertiary Teaching institutions in Mumbai free of charge.
During the years of the pandemic, the operations of the clinic had to be halted and the clinic space was given up as paying rent was no longer viable. However, recently the clinic has been re-instated at a local Doctor's premises and is used on Sundays by SMA Kendra to continue the all the services that they had provided earlier.
